I have a 1979 Jeep CJ5 narrow track, with the usual midwestern rust. I have just located a 1974 frame in good shape, will it work under my tub? I realize the differances in the c-frame of the '74 compared to my channeled '79 frame. But can I upgrade the '74 frame and weld it up, beef it up to '79 standards. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

72 - 75 frames are the same, in 76 the frames were boxed and the rear frame width was made wider.

I wouldn’t swap a 1972-1975 “C” channel frame for a 1976 & up “boxed” frame as the C channel frames are more prone to cracking. I would look for the right frame. (76 & up). As more and more CJs are being parted out you might get lucky and run across a decent one. Heck, the search is half the fun!

Thanks for the info...too good to be true...I knew it! Well if anyone needs a good rolling frame and other parts this guy is in Cedar Rapids, Ia.. I found him on Craigslist, hope it helps someone. And if anyone has a post '76 frame....let me know:drool:
