Anyone have any preferences/opinions on steel vs. synthetic winch cables?

Going to invest in a nice winch and would like to hear of any real world experiences...

thanks.

Still using the same steel cable on my Warn 8274 that came with it in 1977, on my new TLC FJ-40. :D
Out here in the Mojave, those synthetic ropes don't hold up to being dragged over rocks or the alkalized soil and UV.
My avatar picture shows the winch I speak of.......;)

The synthetic line is a lot easier on the hands but doesn't last as long as wire. `

Thanks guys. Steel was my first choice - just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing out on some new 'technology' - no experience with synthetic winch ropes...

About once or twice a year. Spray the cable with silicone spray.
Helps to make it 'lay' right on the drum.
