Well, I just got the CJ back from the mechanic with a list of things it needs to get it certified. One of the things it will need is for the windshield washer sprayer(?) to work.

So I got it home and found that its not plumed or wired in.

So my question is....how do I wire and plum in a windshield washer bottle. Is it simple enough for me to do Or shoud I just get a mechanic to do it?

Easy two wire fix...

Just wire a pump in with a switch and your good to go.

How about editing you profile with you CJ info - so we know what we are dealing with though.. It helps us all... :) -->> http://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/profile/edit/

Glad to have here as a member of our site! :)

I've not done wiring before....I'm not sure if I need anything to reduce power to the pump so that I don't burn it out. Any site info you recommend?

Ahh! Great! Just get a washer pump for 12v and your good to go! :) Any automotive parts store will have a pump (Autozone, Advanced, Napa)..

Glad to have you aboard!

its quite easy to wire in, you can buy a universal washer bottle and pump (its much cheaper from my experience than buying "jeep"). be sure its a 12v pump, run the wire to your switch on dash. be sure to cover the wire with lume to protect it. on my 76 cj its a 5 wire plug. two prongs for pump, 3 for wiper motor. your switch will then activate both the pump (by pushing in) and the motor by turning.

Piggy back this thread. My 86 CJ7 is allmost done. there are two wire's
on the bottom of the motor. I have one hooked up. Is the other a ground?

On the bottom of the... motor? The pump motor? Wiper motor? Engine?

Catman; I think I understand that the washer bottle is there it just isn’t wired. Two wires on the pump motor I think one is black and one is red but it really makes no difference. Run jumpers to the battery and see if the pump works, if not go find one that does, if it does, ground one wire and the other should wire to a line coming through the power block from the wiper switch. The pump should run when you push the wiper knob in. good luck. A volt ohm meter would be a handy thing to have.

Thanks yup got it all done. so now I have it all in pieces...LOL

I don't mean the washer bottle.that was just to get it certified so I could put it on the road. Now I've taken it all apart to clean up all the rust, do body work and paint....wish me luck...

never heard of needing a washer bottle to pass inspection one of my jeeps dont even have wipers :D not fun in the rain but Its more a trail rig than a daily driver

Here the vehicle has to have a working washer/ wiper system, no holes etc....but funny enough it doesn't have to have an engine.

I got it to work. One is power and the other is ground. I must have lost the ground wire when I took the body off the frame.

Don't know if yours is the same but my washer motor was marked positive and negative on the motor for wire hook up.Took a magnifying galss to see the marks thou.
