Windshield Wipers

I have a 73 CJ5 and my wipers don't work. I took the cover off in front of the windshield and turned them on and the motor seems fine. So i went and took the cap off my windshield frame and looked inside and the thing is turning but the wipers not working. There is what looks like gray plastic between the nut and the motor but it is tore up real bad. I tried to put a lock washer on the back side and 1 on the front then the nut and tightned it back up and it did not work it just spun in place(did not move the arms for the wipers). Is there a plastic piece somewhere in the mix that is tore up or....

The brass piece is on the wiper arms but this is is on the shaft coming out of the motor, it spins even with the bolt tight. I made a video with my phone and will try to post it. I may just use RainEX on my windshield

Sounds to me like you think the arm is slipping on the motor. If that's the case either the arm or motor splines may be stripped. Time for a new motor if three motor splines are gone. If the arm is stripped this is an opportune time to do the Wipeboy upgrade which comes with a new longer arm for the new wiper arms. Would post a link but not sure how from my phone.

I had this problem when I bought my CJ. I think the wiper linkages may be binding. Check out this link where someone else had this issue.
