tore out the dash on my jeep today was gonna clean it up and start on some new guages and switches. anyway the first look at the wiring and i almost sold the jeep. people who cant do electrical work shouldnt touch wiring. stereo power was pulled from the wiper harness. never tried it before but come to find out stereo only works with wipers on. even had power going to two wires that look like they were at one time ground wires. every connector is corroded and those stupid connectors that people use to crimp through the insulation to power another wire; there are about 25 of them in my jeep. burnt switches and wires everywhere. so now im pissed and figured im gonna change everything on that jeep that i didnt change to start with during my build. so now the body is coming off every wire hose hard line and fitting is gonna be new. frame off rebuild started today. maybe ill just have to buy a new jeep to finally get to drive one i own.

There comes a time in every Jeep mans life, when he finally sees the light and tears his Jeep to the frame. Tired to death of chasing the devil around that hides in every bad repair ever made, and realizing the only hope for sanity is a rebirth. Just don't cut any corners, never think "eh...thats good enough" and you will have an amazingly dependable CJ in the end. Good luck! :chug:

YEP. thats where my CJ7 is at right now...a bare frame, mostly due to the rust issues. When I get done with that one (done?) My CJ5 will be next for a frame up build.
Good luck, have fun with it, and budget at least 3x what you think it will run ya!

when im done there is not gonna be one thing on my jeep thats not new. painless harness got ordered this morning. tuesday morning im gonna order my new gen right fuel tank and yj sending unit and pump. and next saturday im buying a Dana 44 thats already set up for high steer for $250. by next sunday ill be sitting on a bare frame ready to start over again.

Go ahead and buy a J8:
American-made aftermarket off-road parts and equipment - has entered into an agreement with Chrysler that will allow AEV to sell fully assembled J8 kits right here in the United States.

Post up a pic of your wiring mess if you can.

well the jeep is a bare frame as of last night. still gotta pull fuel lines and brake lines. ill get some pictures of the wiring today.

well you have to tear it down and then put it back again to make sure everything else is working fine rather than doing the tearing down and the building over and over just to chase one problem. not much of a problem though, it is a good problem when you have a budget since you can have fun with it.

I got to tearing my cj down for the same reason now I dont want a single part on my jeep unless its new :)

thats what i am goin for is all new parts. found a couple of cracks in my frame. so now the left side frame rail is completely boxed in from the front cab mount to the shock tower. right side is plated. motor mounts welded back in. moved em three inches forward for better distributor clearance. good thing i have to work the fourth. its a thousand dollar day and im getting ready to need alot more money.

Just Empty Every Pocket, Just Exchange Every Part ;)

well Im at work today to. It makes it hard to work on it when your always working to feed its appetite for new parts:)
