That's what I am looking for, to use on the dash mount. I know how to remove the knob, but can't find a good way to loosen and tighten that nut. Does one exist?

Thanks for posting that PB, I wasn't sure anything like that existed. As it is a specific tool for AMC vehicles. I know that older Fords had a similiar nut on their headlight switches.

I made a tool similar to that to remove the valves from my 1960 Wayne compressor. Looks just a easy to fab up a socket.

When I get that sucker off, I would like to change over to something a bit simpler that doesn't require specialized tooling. Keeping it like it came from the factory just doesn't appeal to me. I once had a tool to remove that nut but had to modify it to work on an old pickup truck.

Made mine from a section of pipe.
NOT pretty-Works real well.
