Can anyone explain why someone would lower the shock mounts, rather than install longer shoks with a suspension lift? What is the advantage/disadvantage?

I'm with gert on this one.

I think the same thing. He either got free shocks or did want to buy new ones.

 i have never seen that

if you hit a bump wouldn't that destroy the shock?

beautiful jeep by the way :chug:

Add this to all the PO horror stories. Just when you thought you have seen it all.

Hey are those the Rancho 9000XLs? How much lift are you running?

Well about 5. I have an '81 so what I did was left the shock mounted on the bottom plate and added an '82 and later top mount, so yes these 9000xl's fit for my travel needs. I like them, they are made in USA. I had Skyjakers made in Mexico, and you can see the quality difference.

It was bad Jeep karma cause you sold those gray seats to someone other than me for more. :D

Seriously though wide trac shock mounts wouldve been better. :(

Oh Pete let it go brother, there will be other seats.... Seriously, what do you mean wide track mounts, the bottom mounts? I'm going to do that when I get new axles. My front is wide track but the PO did what you saw in the WTF pics. I just decided to this route for now. It's just a driver anyway Pete. ;)

Cool thanks for the info. I may just modify mine too if I can't get the ride to soften up a little.
