'79 CJ5, 258 I6, T150 w/Dana20, Dana30 front and AMC20 rear. My first Jeep! I'm looking forward to doing some minor upgrades and restoration while enjoying the ride.
When doing a 4 inch spring lift (SUA) is there any reason to use the wider YJ springs?

Also, when doing a spring lift is there still a need for an anti wrap bar?

Do you guys have a recommended spring to use? I've read that the newer springs come with thin layers between the leaves to help them slip.

I'm still considering options between a SOA and SUA lift and trying not to get tunnel vision with the SOA, I want to explore all possibilities so I still need to learn.

Thanks

Front YJ springs are wider and a tad longer than CJ springs which will give you a better ride. The rears are the same between both CJ and YJ. It will give you a good ride but lifts from BDS and Rubicon give excellent ride quality from their CJ kits. With a 4 inch lift it would be surprising to need an anti-wrap bar unless you are running a ton of HP. This is mainly due to the fact that they have a heavy curve and higher spring rate which reduces the wraps that a flat spring will have. Also being a spring under the axle has less leverage on the spring that it will with a spring over set-up. Usually the anti-wrap bars are for spring over lifts.

YJ spring for better ride and flex, BUT they are also longer and I believe require moving at least 1 of the front spring mounts (YJ and CJ rears are basically the same).

I have never seen axle be an issue with SUA lift springs. The lift springs are usually stiffer than flat stock springs which help prevents axle wrap (but also hurts the ride and flex). I also read some stuff when doing my SOA that the way the springs cradle the axle in SUA helps the springs reduce wrapping also. I don't know if there's any truth to that or not.

I just redid mine last November and put the BDS 2 1.2" SUA kit on. The ride is somewhat softer than what I had but nothing like how a car rides.
