I have a '72 CJ5 and want no more than 4in lift over stock. I want my 33's to clear like they do now. PO has homemade shackels of he said 1.5in lift and flat fenders and the wheels and tires clear fine. I wouldn't mind doing the YJ leafs for a decent amount of lift and be done. What all will I need and where's a good place to buy?

Rubicon Express has a quality kit.
I'd like to see pictures of the homemade shackles.

So what if I buy 3in YJ leafs, do I get 3in total lift? Do I buy stock height YJ shackles too? Do they bolt right on?

As far as the homeade shackles, I'll get a pic but hey are horrible!

I like M.O.R.E. 1/2" over stock grease able shackles my self.
Rubicon express has a YJ springs to CJ Jeep kit.
As far as 3" springs giving 3" of lift, it depends on your Jeep: IE weight, but some spring give more like the Ranch military wrap, some less.

The kit I found was $1,200. My pockets aren't that deep lol. I'm thinking $500 and under for a decent 4in or under kit. I just want to clear the 33's I have and have bushings and better shackles so I don't sway side to side.

If you go piecemeal for the conversion instead of buying a kit, you can git'er done for a lot less money. Stock UJ springs are available on CraigsList 'cause some folks either part out their Wranglers or lift 'em. They'll have the mounting plates, too... except you'll need one more pair of mounting plates WITH the shock mounts.

Then... you'll need a set of bushings (don't start with skanky old bushings), a set of four pivot mounts (two front, two rear), a set of four hanger mounts, and a full set of shackles. You'll WANT new U-bolts because you'll likely wreck at least one gettin' it off.

If you weren't careful setting up your rear mount locations... you'll wind up needing a shortened rear driveshaft.

You'll need... an angle grinder and a 3/8" drill motor and a welder of some sort - wire or stick.

As you're mounting 'em... think LONG & CAREFULLY about where the CENTERS of the springs will be! If you don't, your wheels will be in strange spots in the wheelwells...
