I have an '81 CJ7 and would like to improve the ride and I do not want to do a lift. I would like to keep the front about the stock height but would like to lower the rear a little since I have removed the seat and will only have my dogs back there.
Is there a way to know what springs I would want by say measuring the tub to ground clearance?
thanks in advance

I've been looking at this conversion myself, but I want to lift 2 1/2 so I can run 31's. I cant offer any advise as I'm still in research mode. I have noticed that OME's lift springs come in 3 different load ratings.

If you want to run yj springs you need to install rear 2.5" shackle mounts on the front to replace the 2" wide stock CJ springs. You will also need to install 2.5" spring perches on your axle to match the wider yj springs.

The rear seat doesn weigh that much. I wouldn't worry about lowering the ride height Any.. If you get new springs for the front the rear has probably sagged enough that they will probably even out.

Spring plates for sure.

Shackles and all frame to spring/shackle mounts (8 total)

OME rear springs are what I used. Why did I wait so long.

CJ rears are already 2.5 wide so you don't need to replace any parts from the rear. The front spring mount is wide enough for 2.5" springs. You just have to change the front CJ shackle mount with a rear CJ shackle mount. Those and new spring perches, spring backing plates and longer shackle bolts.

I have YJ springs front and rear on my Jeep. I did not change out the spring perches for the wider springs in front. The two inch wide perches are working just fine for me. 6 years now. My two cents, one less thing to change.

Purple,
Your CJ sits perfect, do you remember what springs you have?♦

The springs came from Rubicon Express with their 4 1/2" extreme duty lift kit. 2 1/2" wide YJ springs.

Thanks. That is more lift than I wanted, do you know how much higher the new springs were?
The wifey is a shorty and since I am running 31X10.5 I shouldn't need that much of a lift. The main purpose of our CJ7 is as a Tow Vehicle behind the Motorhome and fun when camping, nothing extreme.

* I just talked with Rocky Road Outfitters about this. They told me that the stock springs on a YJ will have the CJ sit at the same height as the CJ does with the stock CJ springs? Is this correct?

Rubicon Express makes the same kit in a 2 1/2" lift. I don't know about stock YJ springs on a CJ, as to what amount of lift you would get. I'm sure someone here can say.
