So I'm early in the rebuild process on my 81 Renegade . Torn the front end off and cleaned up the front axle. To my knowledge the Jeep is running the same factory suspension it came off the line with. It's sagging bad. Previous owner outfitted it with 33 *12.5 Tires (Yeah they rub the leaf springs when turning). My overall goal with the Jeep will be some light trail riding and some town cruising. I would like to be able to travel on the Highway at 55 - 60 mph for about 30 miles to make it occasionally to and from my camp (Is that too much to ask?)

Question I pose is I'm looking to put a smooth riding suspension in with no more than 2.5 inches of lift and possibly no lift. If I go 2.5 inches I'm leaning towards the BDS system. What's the best system for me and 0 lift?

Would you consider ditching those tires for a smaller size like a 10.50 x 31"? A stock CJ would work and drive better with the less weight and tire circumference. You could get your stock springs rearched by a spring shop.

I have 267/75/15 tires (~30.5") and I believe stock springs. 60 MPH no problem, around 18 MPG with the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and 1 bbl carb.

I would just put some add-a-leafs in and go with a 31-10.5 tire

welcome aboard from Texas. Stock YJ front leaves would be a good addition to your Jeep, (they are wider and softer than CJ front springs) all new rubber bushings under your jeep with soft shocks

OME YJ springs are a 2 1/2" lift that rides Very well. Couple it with 31" tires and I think you would be pretty happy.

The CJ I just bought had 33x 12.5 and a 2.5 lift. I swapped for 31 BFGs and all of a sudden the steering works correctly and gearing is within spec (3.54). Ran 31s for years never NEEDED more.
