83' CJ7-35's, granny T18, clocked, locked, 456s, D30 20 trussed- stitched-heim traction-1 piece shafts, CV dshaft, quick discos, xtended shock mounts, SOA, revolvers rear, braided lines, herculined, hand throttle, AMC saddle bags, rebuilt 258, D300.
Since I was unfortunate enough to not make the Jeep-CJ run and needed some stress relief, I ran "CK".

I would venture to say this is the most popular run in Arizona as it offers the opportunity for both a pleasure (4wd) run and as a moderate rock trail (optional lines).

The run begins behind Lake Pleasant, Pleasant is the Phoenix water source that is filled by a canal from the Colorado river and another called the Agua Fria.

It begins on the back side of the lake where the pavement ends and the road leads to the town of Crown King approximately 30 miles up the hill in the pines (yes, there are pines less than 2 hours N or Phoenix :D) Group runs of this size are 5 hrs or so with obstacles and some breaks.

The pics I am posting are from various members of the run that are on my local site so I can try and show a decent feel of the trail....of course I included the CJ's I came across ;-)

There is a sign up and the groups run every hour on the hour beginning at 5 a.m. until 10 a.m. The total this year was approx 115 Jeeps of all types with a few others in the mix. I was in the 7 a.m. and there were about 22ish Jeeps....

They govt at one time was giving the burros away for free (adopt a burro). This area and areas further north near the Grand Canyon are overrun with wild burros and some horses. If you haven't been around them and camp they tend to scare people when a heard walks in or they start honking (don't think that is correct term:)) super loud as they do it at night mostly. ckrun26.webp

Part of the run was to raise donations for the town and they had some bad wildfires.....

We had some rain at the top...

The town is historic and has maybe a few hundred people living there? Focal point at the top is reaching the bar!!! Also, locals created tshirts for the run, stickers and beer mugs!!! As you can tell this was an earlier groups pic before the place was overrun:)

Runs go up to the town pretty much year round. The way back home is a graded dirt road that leads to 1-17 and then just head south back into Phoenix. Its about 30 miles but much faster after a long day....

Old dog, you hit that on the head.... Thats one reason I tried to get in a earlier group. At some corners and obstacles it was worse than a highway in rush hour, especially after the broken parts and breakdowns begun. Also, there were some coming down the hill unwary this run was occurring and little room to pass ins some areas.

Our local site also has entire threads dedicated to both carnage (I tore a sidewall and lost a disconnect) and apologies. :D It was an awesome run and turnout overall, although once a year for that size of run is enough. Someone even had some moonshine that we passed around at the bar. :chug:
