I have a 1970 CJ5 with the V6. The clutch disengages at the top of pedal movement. I would like for it to disengage closer to the bottom of pedal movement. Also, when it engages coming back up it is very fast. I would like it to be more gradual. Right not it is almost instantaneous make for some jerky starts. Any ideas?

Sounds like there is an issue with the clutch needing an adjustment. There should be 1" to 1 1/4" freeplay in the pedal. As far as the return rate goes there might be an additional pedal return spring installed under the dash. Sometimes guys put those in.

Welcome to the forum
Your clutch rod between the bell crank and the clutch fork is too long. Loosen the jam nut, and turn the end that engages the fork so as to shorten it. You should feel about 1" of free play in your pedal when you have the adjustment right. Proper adjustment is not so much a function of where you want the pedal to be as it is what is mechanically correct. If you have 0 free play in your pedal, that means that your throw out bearing is constantly engaged. The throw out is not designed for constant contact with the pressure plate, and will burn out very quickly if you don't properly adjust your clutch. If this doesn't solve your problem, it may be time for a new clutch. If you find you need a new clutch, don't mess around, replace everything at the same time, ie, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and pilot bearing. Saves you a lot of headaches down the road, and doesn't break the bank.
