Hello

The previous owner did not install the heater core. The heater box and motor is installed but since there is no pipes coming through the firewall I am assuming there is no core. Please see the pictures below.
I could really use some help on:

1)Where do the heater core hoses and drain come through the firewall?
2)Where do the two hoses attach to the motor?
3)Any way to get a cheap core? the new one cost $90.

Thank you

The feed and return should come through the firewall just to the right of the battery box as seen in your picture not sure about the drain as I don't have one. The lowest cost core I've ever found was about 50.00 From rock auto. As for where they hook up on the motor I believe it's pass side water pump and pass side intake manifold behind the carb. But I'm not positive. As I'm not an amc v-8 guy but most of the diagrams show them there

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that 2" open ended hose the drain? I can see that in the picture and it was installed on my 1980 CJ5 . Or was there another small 1/2" hose? I think that those knockouts come out to get the hoses through as well.

This won't be too expensive Dear! That's what I keep saying. Over and over again.

Yes the drain for the cowell in front of your windshield. That's where your fresh air intake is ..I thought you ment a heatercore drain sorry.

Your firewall is different than mine my cowell drain is up high yours looks to be down very low . The heater core pipes actually stick out through the firewall .

Looking at your pic it looks like the firewall has been overlayed with a piece of sheetmetal. my drain is where that little silver box ( regulator?) is on your firewall

Mine is an 83 so I don't know if this will help, but you can see where my hoses come through the firewall just to the right bottom of the battery rack.

And the heatercore comes through those two holes that are close together and kind of at an angle to each other

You can see the drain in gator bates pic that is where mine is.

You should have two drains. The big one up high in the pic and there is a small one below the heater core. At least thats on the newer models Not sure on a early 70s model.

Well I went back out to the barn and wouldn't ya know it there is another drain but mine is further to the left under the battery it also a later wrangler tub.

Thank you Tinman22

Please see the photo below. There is a hose that just goes from the water pump to the back of the motor. Is this the one that should be routed in to the heater core?

Thank you

Hello Gator

Thank you for the photo. What is the small hose against the fire wall with a white cap?

Also do you have a heater drain hose?

Thx
DAB

Maybe this can help you:
From the front you have two hoses; one to the manifold and one to the fire wall. The other in the fire wall to the end of the manifold.

you can see the two heater hose knock outs in your first pic to the right of the battery.

That is a breather for the Transmission and/or the Transfer Case . I don't remember a heater drain. It would be under the battery. I will try to look today and get a picture. it's kinda chilly around here and I'm seldom around when the sun is shining (for what that's worth, no warmth in sun shine. -48 near where I was working Monday.)

Hi dabbrowne

I crawled under the jeep last night and looked around. There is a drain about 3 or 4 inches below the Heater fan motor. I assume it is for the heater box.:):):)

That would be correct :)
