I have no answer for you but I do have the same Jeep, so I am replying so I can follow the thread & get the same answers
As a side note I found a power brake setup with booster & installed it on my Jeep with the drums still all around. Problem is now I can't remember if I got it off a 83 Wagoneer I had as a parts vehicle or if I found it in a junkyard of a newer CJ. At any rate it seems to work pretty good even with just drums. I am hoping to one day convert front to disc & install a front locker of some sort just haven't had the time or money to do so.
Something else while I am thinking of it is if you can find a wide trac axle off a CJ its a direct swap from what I understand. The 74 has "narrow trac" axles & in 76 or so they started putting "wide track" axles underneath, they are 4 in wider than the narrow track & the theory was that with a wider base it was less tippy. I found one for free but it needs rebuilt & is missing a few parts. mine came off a 79 I was told & has disc brakes. The wide rack rear (usually an
AMC20 ) isn't as good as the stock
Dana 44 for the 74 so if & when I install the wide track axle I will be putting wheel spacers on the rear to bring it out. Also I think the gear in the wide track are differernt so I will have to change those also, but form what I have heard if you find one with smae gears its an easy swap, ddrop your axle & slide new one in & done.
The other thing I have heard of & sometimes consider is finding a Ford 9in front & modifying that to fit, basically your getting a beefier axle than the stock 30, converting to disc & adding a locker if needed & moving the mounting brackets. With a front 9 & rear 44 (basically the same setup that the original Bronco & F100/
AMC 150 had) I would be more than set for what I like doing as the next step would be going to one tons which I don't think I want to do.
Actually I geuss I did have some answers or at least options
