I'm finally beginning to bring my 74 CJ5 back to life. The tub has rotted out a bit in spots while sitting these past 10 years and I can't afford a brand new one so I will have to find a good used one. My question is what years will bolt right in place of my old tub?

I believe 72 - 75 are a straight bolt in. Perhaps older. I know in 76 the rear of the frame was widened, so that may throw the mounting holes out of whack. In 72 they also lengthened it in front of the firewall. I believe older CJ5 tubs were still the same.

I'm on the same boat and going back and forth between fiberglass, steel, or trying to find a southern CJ5 as a donor.

You might think about replacing those rusted out panels with new ones. Mine wasn't too bad so I just had small areas to replace. Never done it before, so I taught myself. I cut a cardboard pattern, transfered that to sheet metal, cut it out, and welded it in. Most look really good. One I got a little to hot and bowed the metal. What ever route you go make sure if you replace the tub, you remove your original VIN plate and attach it to the new one. It will be a whole lot easier to register and title that way. Rod
