Hey everyone,

So I’ve come to a roadblock with the harness setup. I’ve never messed with electrical but figured since I’ve done the rest of the jeep on my own I’ll attempt to do the electrical. If anyone has worked on them they will know exactly what I’m talking about in my questions below. I will attach pictures to make it easier.

Painless kit 10110 (I think, will check when I get home) the harness is for CJ5 76-82?

So......I have a DUI Distributor which eliminates my Coil. So that eliminates a bunch of the wires. This also makes it harder (easier if you know what you are doing) because the diagrams they provide don't match up with my setup that I have. On the harness there are 3 cables that run to the alternator: RED and Dark RED (both wires are zip tied together and labeled ALT B+) and BROWN (labeled ALT Exciter). My alternator has the 2 wire plug in and a screw to attach another wire. Which wires go where? Do both of the reds go to the plug-ins and the brown to the screw? Based on some reading I did it looks like I have to also install the maxi fuse???? based on the instructions, I have to use the pre-cut RED wire they provided???

Thanks in advance for any help! :notworthy::chug:

I am open for Skyping with someone to make it easier if necessary. Just let me know.

You can see where a fuse of some sort is needed for the battery hot line. The #1 alternator connector goes to the coil postitive connection "exciter" with either a resistance wire or a diode. The #2 connector is the "sense" will go to the alternator battery post in the oem configuration. You can also hook it to the same starter relay location as before. I have mine wired to the gas gauge red wire thru a fusible link, this gives me full battery voltage on the dash wiring. Also shown is a ground connection from the alternator housing to the battery negative, and a ground wire from the starter housing to the battery negative which is an improvement over the oem method.
