Typical Story lost the key, it s a 1977 CJ5 on the column. If I drill the tumblers out, what is the procedure once I can get it turn with a screw driver. Wish I could find a step by step method of removal and replacement using a drill and screw driver.

To remove it the right way you need to pull the steering wheel and unscrew the turn signal switch to get to the screw that holds it in.

After that screw is removed, does the ignition just pull out?

(I was attempting to take mine apart yesterday and dropped it on the floor. Landed on a jack stand. Busted the plastic. Said LOTS of bad words. End of hijack)

Yes you should be able to pull it out after you remove the screw.

If you look there is a notch in the side of it that is where the screw goes to lock it from just pulling out.

Thanks, I was under the impression that if you could turn the switch to on there was detent you could press in to get the cylinder to come out without stripping the whole column down.

I found this to be very useful... It was written by John Strenk.
