I've come across a little problem with my 77 CJ7 steering column! I'm having a lot of problems with the ignition switch. The switch will roll all the way around, I've had to change the switch cylinder 3 times. I really think it's just worn out. I've found a guy in my town today willing to sell a extra column he has for $75. He said it came out of a 1984 CJ7 . Will that 1984 steering column fit in my 1977 CJ7 ?

I cant say for sure but if you look at the new columns that are for sale on ebay there saying they fit 76 to 86 so if thats correct I would say it would,,but I am still just guessing as I have never done it,,and you need to make sure that if yours had power steering that the other one did also as I think that is a difference

The column will be the same PS or manual, it's the intermediate shaft at the steering box that's diff.

I replaced mine with a 97 Cherokee column, pretty much plug and play for the electrical. had to remove the firewall mount flange and replace with the one from the 77 column and cut the coupling off the two intermediate shafts and weld the 97 on to the 77. You have to watch the position of the connector to the wheels or the steering wheel will be Waaay out of alignment.

job was a walk in the park and got tilt, high/low beams and wipers on the column. the turn signals cancel and the steering wheel says Jeep. All for less than $80. I did find a column with a key in it, thanks to "cash for clunkers".
