I have 2 CJ7 's in which one of them has an engine! The other has 4 tires. I have no idea what I'm doing! I'm thrilled. Here are the pics of the first one that's now in the garage. I'll be getting the second one soon. I'm planning on swapping the bodies. The red one is the one with the good frame, engine, and Transmission . I'm hoping to be able to replace the automatic Transmission with a manual one. Assuming I can get the engine running!!

A pressure washer helps. Take plenty of pictures. Start tearing it down. Buy a bunch of plastic bags and label everything

yes take plenty of pictures and post , what size motor is in it now ?

And don't throw anything away until you are done.

I have to take the steering column off to get the tub off the frame. Does anyone know a good web site that will walk me through that process? Here are some pics of both my jeeps. I'm hoping to take tires, suspension, and body off the green one and put it all on the red one that has the engine and tranny.

:ww: from Missouri. It looks like a great new project keep the pictures coming.

When you remove the bolt and nut off the steering shaft, take it ALL THE WAY OFF. Not trying to holler at you, just remembering my frustration.:D

Take the bolts out holding it all under the dash. four or five if I remember correctly, but I sometimes drink when working on jeeps...;)

After it is all loose, get in the tub and give it a good yank. WATCH OUT FOR HITTING YOUR HEAD ON THE ROLL BAR. That leaves a good goose egg... And it makes you have another beer while cursing the 50-60lbs you have gained in the last 15 years from drinking beer because your cat-like reflexes have slowed some.

Its not hard at all, just take bolts out till stuff is flopping and then remove.:chug:

Great Tips on the removal of the steering column. But lets not get the Cart ahead of the Horse here. YOU DO HAVE A BEER FRIDGE IN YOUR SHOP ALREADY DON'T YOU? If not, find one, stock it! it will make the whole project much more tolerable.:chug:
And remember, Building it is 98% of the Fun.

Great project. I thought I would point something out. The front main leaf is bent on the passenger front of the red jeep. Also your green one has shackle reversal setup on it. You might look at swapping springs.

Thanks for the heads up. I was planning on taking suspension from the green one and putting it on the red one. I noticed the shackle reversal the other day. Please keep the tips coming! I'm learning a ton...

I was trying to get the steering column off today and couldn't seem to make it come out. Here is a picture of where I think it should disconnect. What am I missing?

There should be a bolt with a nut on it you need to take the bolt all the way out to get it to separate.

So if I'm understanding you guys correctly, the bolt is on the steering shaft toward the gear box at the front of the car? I don't remember seeing any bolts there. I removed a bolt that held a clamp together just above the universal joint. Is that the bolt you guys are talking about?
