Yes it is. Then just pull the wheel out with the shaft attached. :chug:

Thanks for the help everyone. I got the steering column and shaft off today as well as disconnected the master cylinder from the firewall. Getting close to lifting the body off.

Glad to hear you got it off :chug:

I have a couple questions. I just got the tub off the '83 CJ7 the other night. I have posted a few pics that I'm hoping you guys can look at and help me.

1. I have an automatic Transmission on the jeep currently. In a perfect world, I would like to convert it to a standard while I have the tub off. Is that a terrible idea? And, is there a Transmission that would fit the Transfer Case currently on there?

2. My next step is to take the suspension off the green jeep and put it on the one I'm keeping. Any major tips I should know before I start randomly unscrewing things and have a spring pop in my face!

3. Does anyone know anything about a product called POR 15?

I really appreciate all your help! I'm clueless without you guys!

It is definitely feasible to do this, and best time is while everything is apart!

It's a serious PITA... Start soaking them early, and you may need a really large hammer / torch / creativity to get the bolts and bushings out. If you get the bolts out, chisle the internal sleeve out of the bushing will help to get all out of there...

Like I said, can be a serious pain... Don't reuse bolts, bushings etc. Shackle and hanger may be able to be re-used.

Don't re-use the u-bolts attaching springs to the front and rear ends, go new, and if you desire to go thicker, remember you either have to ream the spring plate holes out correctly, or have new ones made. I used a local spring shop to bend the bolts for me and make me new spring plates. Off road, and on the rocks, these things take abuse, so go strong is my suggestion.

3. Does anyone know anything about a product called POR 15?

Por 15 is great. Very good protection. Little hard to get used to using, but really like it. Get some marine clean too. That stuff cleans up everything, including 15 year old grease, a little easier than heavy elbow work!

Gear Ratio Calculator This is a fun website to use when determining what kind of Transmission , Transfer Case , diff., and wheel size your going to use in your setup. Gives you speed, and rpm ranges through all the gears. And its easy to use!

Well it's probably a three speed TF999 with a Dana 300 . With stock diffs on the straight inline six should be a 3.73 ratio. This can be to your advantage because of the transfer cases adaptability to other tranny swaps. The Dana 300 being a much desirable case. With that being said you could probably get by with 33 inch tires which is a common desired lift and most practicle for CJ. The gear ratio calculator with some ideas from novak transmissions can give you idea of crawl speed and highway speeds etc. especially if your looking for fuel economy.
