hello everyone! I just landed a decent job that gives a 19 year old more money than he knows how to spend... so i turned to my dads old '79 CJ5 . This jeep really has a lot of sentimental value to me! I rode it back when i thought my old man was invincible, and now i kind of want to do something nice for him. I am totally clueless when it comes to jeeps, and am mechanically inclined on the most basic levels (change the oil, replace a starter, fix a tail light) so i'll need people to hold my hand through this. My old man owns a few welding shops so i have most tools at my disposal. alright here it goes!

I'll start off by this...

It used to have a huge lift, and sat on 35s, but the steering was extremely loose. you couldn't blow on the steering wheel without it spinning a few times... i crawled underneath it and find out the PO did a SOA conversion and welded some blocks on the front and rear axles (not safe!) so i removed them and returned it down to its stock height

this is after i brought it back down..

OMG! I sure would not want to go around any tight curves with that SOA nightmare! If your build is anything like some of ours, you can probably finance some of it with all the extra junk that the PO welded to it! Keep up the posts.

You are wise beyond your years for returning that suspension into a usuable platform. Alot of young adults would just fill the wheel wells with as much tire as they could fit. Looking forward to the rest of your build. :chug:

WOW!............that's quite the mess!...........not sure what your steering looked like before with the SOA.........but now with it lower you need to correct it also.
