Build Thread 1979 Jeep CJ7
Here is the np435 Transmission . It has the Novak adapter installed. Keeping my fingers crossed. First manual Transmission rebuild, or any Transmission rebuild for that matter. Learning experience but not hard. The one thing that still worries me is the endplay. It was very difficult to check endplay. If it's not set properly it effects the syncros I guess. Well it's together so it's do or die at this point.

I love my Mopars but there is not a lot of support for fuel injection swaps for them, a lot easier to to a GM TBI swap on the AMC 304

I don't know what support you get after you buy a kit. That's a huge part of buying a tbi kit of any kind. That's what Howell I understand does. I haven't had time to sit down and dive into it.

I think I remember the u-tube guy with the 5.9 conversion shows you how to convert everything over. It's basically down to finding the entire system and whole engine brackets and ecm and wiring harness, then building your motor mounts. He may show that also. I think it was him I seen after he had it in and running.

There is also another guy that took two cj's and put a mercedes diesel in one and was getting ready to do another one. I think they were mercedes. It was a european diesel.

Have you got a flywheel for a 5.9 magnum? It has an external balance where as the 5.2 was an internal balance

Here are some more pics of the Transmission and novak adapter. Now that I figured out the pic posting thing, I will definitely post pics throughout the conversion process and I have a feeling it won't be without setbacks. My biggest concern going in is the Transmission mount. It's going to be different than stock in location and that it won't have the extra stability mount. I have done some measuring and the new units are a total of 6" longer than the original.

Ok. New problem. Why is this pic posting thing flipping pics upside down?

Hey at least you figured out how to upload a picture. :)

Yesssss! Finally, gaining ground. Got up this morning to a very dry garage floor under the jeep! Combination of valve cover gaskets leaking and over filling the crankcase.

Sweet, way better than mine, I think everything on mine seeps

Yeah I have a seeper also, nothing to serious though

It's just marking it's territory.

Temps in the 70's for a couple days here. Itching to pull the top off......

I don't mind oily dirty engines and floors. But those are a sign of potential entryways for water especially around the front and rear mains. Crossing deep water, I want to keep as much water out as possible. In theory.

Well I pulled the trigger again. I ordered my rear bumper with swing gate, two jerrycan holders and an over the spare carrier rack. The rack and jerry can holders are detachable. The bumper will have a reciever hitch and recovery points as well. I wanted to get my order in before his sale ends tomorrow. It's going to be about 3 weeks before it's ready to pick up. I'll post some pics when I get it.
