I've got a 1980 Laredo with a AMC 304 . I'm trying to figure out what axles I have so I can plan ahead on what I may need to purchase. Are these axles ok to wheel with and upgrade? Or should they be swapped? Plans are mainly a wheelin rig and going to run 35's after a year or so. Currently will run 31's

rear, I thought it had a similar housing to my friends Dana 44 .

narrow trac Dana 30 front, and AMC20 rear although cant tell you for sure on the rear without a pic of the diff cover, if its round then it is for sure a AMC20 rear. they will be fine with 31s, with 35 you'll want to take it easy but they can survive, the rear will definately need to have a one piece axle kit put in it.

Where would one buy a 1 piece axle kit? And a lunchbox locker for the rear?

Try Morris 4x4 or 4 wheel drive hardware.

Although Cheepjeep85 already said you have a AMC20 rear end, to make sure the cover should be very round like this:

thanks a ton for the replys and the help. I've been searching, but it seems like this "general" knowledge is hard to come by since its just a known thing. How do I know if its a wide track? That axle kit says its for an '83+, mine is an '80... I'll assume mine is the narrow track for now and until I can measure.

I'll probably get to look at it and work on it this weekend, or friday maybe, well hopefully.
