Yes need some help desperately! Have a 1982 jeep CJ7 2.5l with a newly rebuilt Rochester carb on it. And it's running the best it ever has. The problem is when we're driving and come to a stop from higher rpms (just drop off into neutral gear) it stall at the stop sign. If we crank it it starts right back up and runs great. This carb was a remanufactored one purchased from oreilly about a week ago. We went through 2 before finding one that actually ran right. It idles fine and as far as my knowledge goes we have most the vacuum lines connected right. Any ideas?

How many miles on the engine ?

If this happens only when you apply the power brakes, the problem could be from a leaky brake booster. That can be checked by disconnecting the power brake hose from the engine and plugging the engine side and trying that. You might want to plug up any open vacuum ports on that carb also and see how that works.

As your engine starts to die, the vacuum actuated fast idle control should apply some throttle to avoid having the engine stall. Check the vacuum hose going to this controller for leaks. Also, apply vacuum from an outside source and make sure the controller operates. Vacuum applied and the controller should be fully retracted. Loss of vacuum will cause the controller to push against the throttle linkage and open the throttle slightly.

Good point there Bass, in the later CJs, not sure about the '82, there was a Sole-Vac throttle positioner. It was controlled by vacuum and the computer.

Ck all manifold nuts/bolts to be sure they are 'tite'.
May have to reset the idle air/fuel mix some as it sounds like it is 'lean'.
Confirm the float setting within the carb is correct.
