Well at least you got to keep the clamps! Plus you got a free dryer hose. This was a Hall of Fame winner.

kinda wish mine looked as good as yours at least yours is all together. Sure i paid a lot less but not sure if its worth it.

look at it this way mech, building a CJ is like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer, it feels really good when you are through. Logically, the longer and harder you have to hit yourself the better it feels when you stop.

yea, I know, it's pretty lame but it's the best I got.:D
hang in there guys, if it was easy everybody would have one!!

So...2 months in and I finally get a chance to work on this beast. I figured out that it had approximately 1 gallon of extra motor oil in the engine...no wonder it was smoking and blowing out oil. Today, I decided to crawl under it and drain the oil down to a safe level before starting it again. What did I find?...A STRIPPED F***K**G DRAIN PLUG!...WTF!...ROFLMAO!

Well the 8 in clamps look to be in good shape! That's a plus.. Can't wait to see it when u get done

Thanks...way to be positive...lol

Hours and hours of entertainment.:D

I feel your pain, I think the same guy that wired your horn helped my PO wire his (at least your was mounted) LOL. I love the clamps.:D When I laid under mine the first time the muffler ended under the back seat, :confused:sad thing was it even had the down pipe on it. And even better yet when you put the emergency brake on the cable would ram into the muffler not allowing the emergency brake to be set. I just had to share. Good thing about all this is, you always have something to work on, and every time you fix something the right way it is a huge sense of accomplishment!!!!:chug:

Since my budget is crazy low ($100/month) I don't have the money for a new oil pan, and I don't have the time right now to drop the pan to fix the stripped plug. I think for now, I'll drill out a smaller hole in the center of the plug, tap the hole and put in a smaller plug. I could just wait, but I'd like to drive it..but that can't be done until the 1 extra gallon of oil is removed. I bought a siphon hose the other day..but the hose is too big. Until I can score some smaller surgical hose or IV tubing...I'll have to find another way. Summer is coming and the jeep WILL NOT sit all summer...I refuse..lol

Man that stinks! You may want to go to Sears and get a set of the Nut Outs by Craftsman, I have used mine a couple of times on my Jeep already. Here is a link. I've also seen them at the parts store also. Good Luck!

DUDE!...I have never seen that...it looks freakin' awesome..may have to give that a shot...do you think it will grab the drain plug...considering how low profile the plug is?

I am pretty sure it would work for you. Just make sure you go slow to start until it really bites into the bolt head, otherwise you will strip it beyond repair. I used these a few times even on the quick bleeders on the rear of my Jeep, worked like a dream. Good Luck!

Maybe i should explain a little better...it is not the head that is stripped..the head is perfect..it is the threads...it's able to be spun by hand..and doesn't come out even 1 thread..lol

Sorry it's been so long...but life tends to get in the way...lol. Well I finally got the rims and tires off. I have a friend that traded me a set of 33x12.5R15's for my 35x12.5R15's. He got the better end of the deal considering that my tires had about 95% tread and his had about 25% tread, but 35's are just too big for the stock running gear. Besides...with as many kids I have, it will only get driven to work and occasionally maybe a mud hole or two. My Jeepin' has always been about the pleasure and experience of driving the Jeep and a little mud...besides...with $100/month budget...I have to have priorities...which means...if it ain't broke..Don’t fix it. The fun part of today was finding out that there are 1/4" spacers on the hubs...and that there are only 18 lug nuts (I already knew that), and that there are 3 different styles and 3 different sizes of lug nuts..WTF! Luckily, the same friend that traded tires (whose brother did the tire changing for free) has a 5 gallon bucket full of lug nuts that they keep when they sell cars for scrap. The brother of this friend is also giving me a used (in better condition than mine) set of front buckets and a back seat, complete with belts. I know that a lot of you will tell me that I was crazy considering the condition of the tires, but to be honest...the jeep will always have $25/tire mudders or A/T's from the local tire shop that sells used tires. The real trick here is to do enough to get the wife to sign off on the real project I want to start, which is a 9 seater with 4-6 doors and a CTD (4/6 BT)..lol

So...I found something new today...I found 1/4" wheel spacers...installed which is why the studs seemed so short...I could understand putting spacers on if you had skinny tires with a lot of backspacing...but with normal rims and 12.5 wide tires..I don't think that 1/4" is worth the effort.

I love the comment of $100 a month, how old are you? lol.
I just bought a '85 CJ7 total stock even under the hood, was amazed.
oh, the tire size was upgraded to 31x10.5 on stock rims. Paid the same as
your Red Beast. Im in Arizona, trying to figure out why its overheating?
Changed out the Thermostat now gonna check clutch fan then mabe rod out the radiator...
