Hi Everyone. I just recently acquired a 1983 CJ7 all stock. Body is in great shape. It has been in a garage for the past 9 years. Has 117,000 miles. I replaced starter, alternator, fuel pump, distributor and cap, wires, coil, spark plugs, belt, ignition module, brake master cylinder, PCV valve, Oil.

I have voltage through the coil but none at the spark plugs. I haven't set the new timing yet. Because the timing is off will that not allow for any spark? I need help with setting timing. Is anyone local to the Orange County NY area? I would love to get this thing started so I can get it road/off road ready. Let me know lombardod@gmail.com

The timing could be way off and the plugs would still fire. Something else is wrong.

I screwed up once and assembled my distributor cap wrong (too many beers) and had issues similar to this. You may just need to go back through and check your parts and your grounds. One little wire can cause havock if it is in the wrong spot.

:agree: if you have your wires off by one on the cap it will not start. I did it once too and I'm blaming it on the Beer also :D

:chug:always blame the beer...even if I am not in a drinking mood I always have one near by to point the finger at if I screw up.

But I do recommend looking at it with fresh eyes or you will continue over looking your mistake. For such simple creatures they can be so finicky.

The distributor has a plug with three wires they have voltage and the wire coming from the coil has voltage. What else can be wrong??

Are you sure you have the plug wires on the cap right? If you are off by one it will not start.

Yes there are three wires coming from the distributor, The black is ground, the orange and violet go to either the computer, or if you have the "Nutter By-Pass" they will go direct to the ignition control module. There should be 400-800 ohms between the orange and violet wires into the distributor, this is to the pick up coil.
