1984 CJ-7 Steering Box Assembly is dead and need a new one
Tarry, I finally got around to checking out my old steering box. Here are those numbers:

So that means it was a heavy duty model?

:)Absolutely.........the 76 casting gear box 4 bolt mount HD aka / Saginaw 800 as I have mentioned many times before came factory installed in most of the mid 70's throughout the 80's CJ's. These vehicles had the best gear box money could buy already in the Jeeps!............just needed a rebuild by a reputable Company that could valve the box to your particular driving needs.
Thanks for sharing the photo........

Looks like I have a good spare then, haha. Thanks for the info.

Diddy,

I apologize for the year-and-a-half late question, BUT, how has that gearbox performed since August 2012? Also, would that H1 gearbox install on my 1979 CJ7 ?

Upon the purchase of my CJ7 , the gearbox leaked fluid like an old man's prostate. I went to NAPA, got a reman, installed, used it probably 300 miles in 1-1/2 years and the reman leaks even worse.

I am looking for an upgrade much like you did. Any info would be much appreciated.

No problem. It has been great. I drive it as much as I can and I've had no issues with it. Good on the trail and on the street. My buddy just installed one on his '74 CJ5 and he loves it too. Plus, it doesn't leak, which is always a good thing :chug:
