- 1985 Jeep CJ-7 (258, Dana 300 Transfer Case, 3 Speed Auto Transmission.)
Hey everybody! I've decided to finish restoring the 1985 Jeep CJ7 that I started on, a couple of years ago but then life happened .
I've pulled out the engine to start stripping it down of all the accessories so I can order a rebuilt one from Autozone. The guy I bought the Jeep from said that the engine was "original" "professionally rebuilt." And Frankenstein must have been the professional . After I pulled off the (metal) valve cover I noticed the head had 2 center studs that were cut off, so I goggled the numbers I got off the head and it turned out to be a 1975 jeep head.
I then ran the numbers on the block and it turns out to be a 1981 block with a 1979 intake manifold and a 1989 carburetor.
Well all that aside, I got on autozone's website and looked at this engine: Surefire/Engine (DA26) | 1985 Jeep CJ7 6 Cylinders C 4.2L 2BL | AutoZone.com
It says the valve cover has 5 bolts on it, but all the 1985 Jeep valve covers I've found have had 6 bolts on it, could this just be a misprint?
Another question I've had is what color did the engines come in when they were new?
Thanks!
