There are very few drive shafts on cjs that can be modified to a four inch lift. Plus if you want a decent set of drive shafts with well biult cv joints it will cost you every bit of seven hundred dollars to get them done right. Not saying you can't get it done for less but it sucks to snap a drive shaft the first day out and know you could have saved a lot of money by just getting well built ones to start with.
That's not true at all. I had my stock drivelines modified very easily, and run with several other people in my group that have also had their stock drivelines modifed for engine/tranny swaps. It's a simple matter of cutting down and balancing...or adding steel and balancing. Driveline shops do it all the time.
Double cardan shafts are another story, new ones are expensive indeed, but that wasn't mentioned. And honestly, you dont need a CV driveline for 4 inches of lift on a CJ7 ...a CJ5 yes as they have a short drivetrain to begin with. Im running 5 inches of lift on my CJ7 and have no need for CV drivelines, haven't for years.
The few drivelines I've seen fail were on rigs running mud with guys who dont know when to get out or the skinny pedal. The exception was one guy in our group who uses an XJ double cardan driveline and he broke the yoke crawling. the XJ driveline is extremelly flimsy at the yoke section if you compare it next to a stock CJ driveline.
One thing i will recommend is to replace the straps on the yoke with u-bolt style cap retainers. They will not loosen up like the straps which is the leading cause of driveline failure.
