- 1979 CJ7 304 bored .30 over with a performance cam. 4 speed manual, 35x12.50x15 tires, 4 inch suspension lift. 4 barrel Holley.
Not too long ago I picked up a 1979 CJ7 with a AMC 304 , rebuilt and bored .30 over with a big cam and 4 barrel Holley. It has a T18a 4 speed in it, 4 inch lift and 35's under it. Only rust issues are a small area under the drivers seat and apparently the drivers floor where you rest your feet has been cut out and patched with what looks like fiberglass. I am going to replace those sections and then once done clean it up and put something like herculiner in it (sp?) It has 120,000 miles on it though the engine has far less as it was rebuilt within the last 2 years. Paid $4650 for the Jeep.
The outside will be taken down to bare metal by myself and then primed and then eventually painted black cherry. The interior will be swapped out to spice and somehow someway I will find or pay a small fortune for a one off roll bar cover to match the new seats. Once the 35's wear out I plan on swapping out the suspension to a 2.5 inch lift and run 32's.
This morning I went with my Uncle and we looked at a Jeep and he bought it on the spot. A 1977 CJ5 with a AMC 304 , rebuilt, 3 speed manual, original nutmeg seats without any tears or blemishes, matching soft top and bikini top, only rust is a spot under the fuel filler area on the corner and a place that is bubbling up on the drivers side below the bottom door hinge area. It has a 2 inch lift and 33's under it. It is running a true dual exhaust and has cats and mufflers under it. It also has a locker in the rear end. All gauges work along with the wipers. less than 70,000 on the Jeep though the engine has far less as it was a Jasper replacement about 5 years ago. It also has power steering and tilt steering. It is a bluish green color. Picked it up for $5,000 as the guy selling it wanted it to go to a good home for a fair price. He listed it yesterday and we went and got it today.
