258 Rear main seal

I replaced what I thought was a leaking rear main seal on my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l last weekend. Once I had everything back together I had the same oil leak from the bell housing. Any suggestions? Is there any troubleshooting to see if the leak is coming from the rear main or the oil pan? I replace the seal following a Haines book procedure.

is the valve cover leaking in the back dripping down the bell it's a common thing

Good point. It is leaking and this is my next place to trace the oil. I also notice oil leaking from the valve body seal.
