I need to rebuild the carburetor on my 77 CJ5 and when I took the Carb off the engine the plastic spacer was in two pieces like a top and a bottom is this the way it's supposed to be or is this broke ???

I've never seen one "break" like that....but I have seen them stacked...whether it was factory or not I couldn't tell you.

Pictures?

got a pic of it?

On mine theres the thin gasket on the manafold, then the heat isolator (plastic piece) then a hard rubber section that fits inside the uprights on the isolator then the carb.

If my assumptions are correct thats what you're talking about... and its normal. But just in case, post a picture.

Well after looking it closer this is the way it was made

Is there any benefit to changing this to a metal spacer ??

Just make sure you put a little RTV between the layers to prevent vacuum leaks.
