Well , in putting my temp exhaust on when I bolted up the collars one of the new studs pulled out of the manifold. Does anyone know if these can be drilled to the next size or have someone weld the new on in place?

Any ideas?

I've had the same problem come up in the past, and I was able to repair it using a heli-coil. If you are not familiar with it, you can google it. It's basically a helical/spring insert that will repair your threads and it makes it at least as strong as before, if not more so. I'm able to get them at my local auto supply store. Personally, I would avoid having any welding done on a cast iron manifold, since that can bring up all sorts of other issues.

A heli-coil was my next option. I really didn't want any welding especially around the stud as if it ever has to be removed. I think advance auto sells them.

:)

You can drill this by hand and it may follow the original hole but it will become very evident when you put it back together if you did not get it straight. If it was mine I would pull the head and have it done in a machine shop, at very least set it on a drill press to drill it.

It is the exhaust end of the manifold that is stripped and not the head. Here is the bolt:

I bought one of these kits today and will fix it. Should work fine.

Here is a picture or two of the build so far. The carb was rebuilt but the guy didn't do any cleaning on the outside. I am not happy with it.
