33" tires should do the trick. If you decide you want 35's you can always upgrade at a later date.

This is my 1985 CJ7 . I have no idea what's in it, changed hands a few times since it came from California and neither of the previous owners did any work on it or know what's inside.

Runs on 35"-12.5-15s and from first look it's a 4" lift with a 2" body lift. Engine is AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I6 and axles I presume are stock, since I haven't had the time yet to do any real work on it and to check it up. I did a tune up, new brakes (complete with lines etc), shocks front/rear/steering and I tested the dinosaur on highway and trails. Does 70-80mph highway easily and decent on hunting trails. All in all a good project for an overhaul restoration.

35's with a 4" lift and a 1" body lift. Plenty of clearance

4" lift with 33's and some fender trimming (for no reason I might add)

...and with 36's, same amount of lift and very little rubbing.

I guess I'll chime in. 4.5" YJ springs, 1" body lift, 35" tires, trimming in the rear (axle is moved back 1.5"), no rubbing in front (axle moved forward 2").

Indeed. This engine is way cool (as my daughter says). The propane conversion is a terrific addition. WAY more power then I'll ever need, but hey, you only live once! :D

Here is my jeep with a BDS 4" lift and 1/2 shackle. I am running 35's and love it. I don't have to many issues with rubbing...

How do I know what size shocks I have? Just got the "new" toy home, They are rancho C2669 in the rear and C2947 in front. Can't find any info on them. Rusted to hell and need to replace. Sitting on 33s with at least a 3-4" lift.

The Black CJ7 in the beginning of this video is my current project.
These are 33x10.50x 15 KM2's on Jeep 8 inch wheels.
4 inch Rancho lift with Edlebrock shocks
I could easily run 35 " tires but I run a bit of off camber wooded areas.
I have regeared the jeep to 4.10's from its stock 2.73 gears.
I like my current setup.
I was not able to pull a hill well with 32's and the stock gearing.

Good luck
Dave

I have a 4 inch lift with 33s. I rub right now. I would need larger shackles or a body lift, or both, before I would try 35s. But, I barely fit in the garage now, so I am staying with 33s.

I once had the same problem. So I went with slightly longer shackles, 1" body lift, did some fender trimming, and made some longer bump stops. I also got a new garage door, problem solved.
