My last 7 was an 80 with the AMC 304 and a buddies 78 with a AMC 304 both had 3.54's. I definitely could be wrong though.

For 76-79, 3.54s were standard with 4.10s optional, regardless of engine.

I know 81-86 I6s got 2.72s or 3.31s, while 4 cyl got 3.54 or 4.10s.

Not sure where the 80s fall, or the '81 V8s. Although 80/81 do have some unique drivetrain differences from other years. Only years with 4, 6, or 8 cylinder option, 80 was the first year for the new lighter duty transmissions, short shaft Dana 300 , last year of the 6 bolt lockout hubs. '81 was the last year of the V8, only year for NT Dana 30 with 5 bolt hubs

Typically you didn't see many 3.54 after 79.
However, they did offer 3.54 in 80
