4'' Rough country lift with 30 inch tires?
sorry bro, i have the metal body. thats what i meant by maybe the extra weight helps them ride smoother, as opposed to ur fiberglass body. left the whole pack togehter, granted ur right doesnt ride like an expensive set but does the trick for the price. as for them being redesigned i got my set in late spring early summer of last year (2010). when did u get yours?

@ rescue diver,
was it a pain in the butt to do the wider axles? i also have a 79 but has the stock axles and w the lift looks the things gonna tip over (because the tires r right underneath). was gonna look into doing the swap if u could let me know what im in for would appreciate it. :chug:

I can't tell you much about swapping to wide axles. I started this project with an 82-85 frame and axles. I bought it from a guy that started with a rusted out 79 with a clear title, that had aquired a later model frame and a fiberglass tub and fenders, but never did anything with them. What I bought was a 1979 title and VIN plate, the fiberglass body, a later model frame and axles, a 1979 T-150 tranny and Dana 20 Transfer Case , along with a lot of little odds and ends.

I later mounted and painted the body, aquired and rebuilt the engine, and bought the T-18 tranny, and countless other parts, mostly from craigslist, and built a jeep out of it all.

Maybe someone else can chime in and tell us if the spring pad spacing is the same between the narrow and wide axles?

Oh. I misunderstood you.

I'm sure the extra weight of your metal body helps, but I doubt I would be happy with my springs even if mine had a metal body.

I bought my springs used from Craigslist, so I have no idea when they were built. I'd guess that the guy I bought them from upgraded to better riding springs after getting tired of being bounced around all the time. I'll probably sell mine to some other sucker that'll decide to spend the extra on better springs after he gets tired of them as well! :D

My CJ had 4" Rough Country springs, and "stiff ride" would be an understatement. I swapped them out for stockers, and when I had them out on the garage floor, I flipped one over like the St.Louis arch. I stood on it with both feet and it didn't move, and I weigh 275 lbs.

GiantsFan go ahead and swap them out. The spring pad mounts are the same distance apart. The pad mount will be a little bigger then the stock springs(about 1/2 inch) but should not be a problem. However when and if you change springs you will need to stay with the right year for the Jeep the w/t springs are wider by 1/2 inch.
