Hi. First off I'm pretty big into jeeps and have 2 tjs a wj and a zj. I'm now looking at a CJ5 to add to the collection.

My buddy traded a beat up truck for a 77 CJ5 without really looking at it and found out it has some issues that he really doesn't want to deal with. He said it's a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l 4speed. Starts right up but won't stay running, no top or doors, someone patched the floors with road signs and there's one small spot on the inner frame just in front of the back tire that needs patched. Also has a YJ front end.

It has a lift (don't know how much) and the tires are ok. Rest of the tub is ok apart from the floors. He only wants $500 for it to get rid of it is it worth messing with? Not looking to off road it (we have the TJS for that) it would be more of a summer Sunday drive or backup for when the others are being worked on jeep.

Any rolling/driving 4x4 is worth 500 all day long u can get a new cab for that pretty cheap. as for not wanting to stay running sound like fuel filter clog maybe?

at the moment I would guess the 4 speed is worth $500 easy, if it is what I think it is.

Ah....

Another $500 CJ5 destined to become an $80,000 money pit.

I don't think you can loose for $500 the parts are worth more than that.

i would start with hey buddy a 12 pack or bottle of bourbon should be enough to get it off your hands... help me load it.

A YJ front end, my god what a hateful thing to do to a fine old warrier like a CJ5 . You need to save her man, I'm tellin yeah you need to save her. Even if your going to sell her for parts, please oh please get that YJ fron end abomination away from that poor old work horse, she need dignity even in a pending death or better yet a reserection.

I see nothing but beauty and honor in the picture shown above. Deffinately a hard working old friend that is diseased, mabe dying, but still working for a living. I bet the old girl doesn't have one of those silly plastic dashes to corrupt her hard steel sole. Old CJ's may they live forever in our memories.

In the making since December 1996, I see this:

Not quite $80,000. And I won't tell you how close it is to that number. They are a worse addiction than Crack, Heroin, Cocaine, or Meth. A CJ addiction is just a different way to sell your soul for pleasure.

Best of luck to those that fall prey to the four wheel drug.
