What is the little metal box mounted on the inner fender on my 73 CJ5 ? I think it has something to do with the ignition system. Engine is AMC 304 . The distributer is original, not the kind with the white plastic vacuum advance dome.
That's going to be your ECM for the ignition. Originally, your Jeep had a Prestolite ignition system and a metal ECM. The Prestolite dizzy has the plastic dome.....so Im assuming somebody swapped it out for a newer Duraspark system, which would also mean a newer style plastic ECM. Am I correct?
73 CJ5 4.0 head on a 258, HEI, Holley Projection w/ 4.56, Detroit lockers Narrowed D44 front and full float D44 rear T14 w/ D20 4 wheel discs, 38.5 Boggers
My 73 CJ had that. Pretty sure that is the old voltage regulator. I replaced it with a solid state one long ago. It was a listed replacement item from a general auto parts store.
