I am no painter/bodyman. And, after this weekend two things-good ones are skilled craftsman/artists and I tip my hat to all who make a living painting cars!!! I bought this jeep to use it, woods, brush, mud etc...I wanted to build a working jeep . However, I do like to keep things presentable. I bought the jeep with a low end fiberglasss body that , needed some TLC. I replaced the front clip, sanded off most of the peeling paint, filled in some the holes drilled for the bestop (also on the list for replacement). Ripped out the dash and replaced the gauges, covered the many holes the PO had cut in it with aluminum diamond plate , and, painted the exposed dash steel the the color I planned to paint the jeep. I primed the body work, and sprayed a good quality sealer (two coats) over everything. I want a flat finish so I added about 30% flatner to the acrilic enamel with hardner. (OMG paint, primer, sealer , hardner....almost $500!!) Also, The windshield had some chips so I had it pulled out and sanded, primed and sealed the frame. I sprayed about 5 coats of color-two very light, one medium and two fairly heavy coats. No runs but as you can see, some "dry spray" in places. Can anyone advise me on how long I should wait before scuffing the paint to flatten it? I was going to use a gray scotch pad and wet it-advice appreciated!!!
