77 CJ5 underdash support tubes

This is my first post on the forum, but I have been learning a lot from you guys over the last year or two. Thanks!

I have a beautiful 75 CJ5 project coming to a close. I bought this jeep totally disassembled so I did not have the advantage of knowing where all the parts came from, it has been a challenge..

I am in the process of finishing the interior and mounting the dash.

I have three pipe braces two about an inch diameter, and one about a 3/4", all flatened ends and slotted to bolt in place. I think one must go to the emergency brake, not sure to where, another one must go to the lower center of the dash, not sure where it anchors to, and the third one I do not have a clue. I took a photo but have not as yet figured how to post pictures into my gallery.

OK I guess the battery box makes sense, I have an aftermarket stainless tray installed now. But then the other two must be for under the dash?

I have been digging in every manual I have and poked around the internet but can not find any details on these bars or the supporting of components like the emergency brake system or the dash lower center.

Does anyone have a copy of a factory assembly manual? On a vette I restored many years ago one of those was invaluable for instances just like this.

Does your jeep have a tubular support on the EM Brake under the dash? Does the Dash Have a tubular support in the center? It sure looks like there needs to be some sort of support for it.

Any suggestions will be appreciated guys.

IO is correct - the braces go under the battery tray.
(Sorry for the grainy top pic.) The long one that the tab has a slot cut in it goes to the fenderwell bolt, the long one with both complete tabs goes to the firewall. I can never remember where the short one bolts to...

OK Guys,
now I'm really wondering what I need!!

Can any of you let me know how the tab with a bolt hole on the emergency brake that is an inch or so behind the dash and above the bottom of the dash bolts to? I am not finding anything in the parts bin that looks like it is intended to support that component. And it definitely needs something.

And,

Are your dashes supported to the tab on the dash board located on the bottom edge around the center?

I have a 73CJ that should be very similar. I'm not sure what bolt hole you are referring to. The picture you show seems to indicate a bolt hole tab near the middle of the dash. I will check mine today and see what is there.

The emergency brake pedal on mine mounts on the far left. I removed it to make room for the full roll cage. I do have all the parts though, so I may be able to get a few pics for you.

The center area on mine has the heater and vent cable control brackets. Is this what you are referring to?? I think there is a small support bracket for this.

On a side note, Your wiring and dash layout looks great. You have obviously put a great deal of time and care into your jeep. It's nice to see.

as the proud owner of a 77 CJ5 I can asure you that all three of those tubes go under the battery box , more or less. the third one goes from the bottom of the center tube out to the fender.



these are not easy to take pictures of.

you can see the third tube best in 1 and 3.

the hole in the center bottom dash is a mystery to me. I no longer have the original dash but I am quite sure there was no strut in the center of it.

On my 75, the air control panel has a bracket to the fire wall.

Id like to thank everyone for the tips. Those old batteries must weigh a lot, Three Supports!!

I still don't know what to think about the emergency brake mount under the dash. I will come up with something.

Post a pic of your ebrake and list the concern on my 77 it bolts to the fire wall And to the side of the tub and is rock solid no bracket required. As far as the bolt tab you have pointed out on your dash that's where my factory ash tray and cigarette lighter bolted. Hope that helps

the tubes do hold the battery mount and one may even help support the fender , the emergency brake on my 84 has 2 studs on back that go thru the firewall and then there is a small welded on bracket on the inside of the tub that sticks out about 3" around the bottom level of the dash on the left side and the emergency brake has a tab that a bolt goes thru and attaches to the welded bracket , the tab on the dash your pointing out is probably to attach a ground wire or any thing else you might want to put there , no brace as far as I know

It looks like the tab on your dash is for an OEM radio and someone has bent the tab down to install an aftermarket radio at one time.
