Well unless Vicki finds a Cj with an automatic and good body within the week looks like my next Cj is a 78 CJ7 . The stats are AMC 304 engine backed by a T-18a with a Dana 300 Transfer Case . Other than a herculined paint job  , the t case, the wheel and tire combo and the bumpers the Cj looks pretty stock.

The Transmission has a bad synchro for 2nd gear. Other than that it seems pretty sound. Im thinking some new 2 1/2 in springs along with some 33s and 1 piece axles will make me pretty happy for now.

I like it 3-1.webp

Looks good from my house.:D

the drive train sounds like the holy grail.

I will never understand the bed liner paint jobs.

I do to. It looks pretty solid from what Ive seen

Wow , You can see it from there? Im amazed. :D

I liked that drivetrain as well. I checked the crawl ratio on it with 33 in tires and was fairly happy with the 58.39 crawl ratio. Throwing a 4 to 1 kit in the Dana 300 nets me an 89.49 without re gearing.

Great driveline parts, the AMC 304 's are getting harder to find.

Shame about the bedliner though, I don't think there's anyway to realistically remove it.

Ive got my fingers crossed. Vicki is furiously looking for an automatic and has come close on 2 occasions so far. Now she found one only 5 minutes or so from the house. She waiting on his call.

I was am loving the drivetrain of this 78 but an automatic will let her behind the wheel a bit and ultimately win out depending on the condition. Right now Im hoping the auto is a rust bucket. ;)

She wants me to look at this:

1985 JEEP CJ7

Im not really a fan of the s.o.a. This has someone elses problem written all over it to me. Thoughts?

I think your right.
SOA but no high steer knuckles, I'd stay away from it.

:notworthy: I was looking at the front pic there and not liking it. Its dark but I was pretty sure I saw enough. It looks too tall for my preference as well.

Thanks guys. Thats one more automatic shot down and 1 day closer to the T-18 .

I helped my neighbor do a spring over to his CJ5 this summer. It had 38's, 4" of suspension and 2" of body lift besides the S/O.
It looked cool and rode great...........until you hit 35 mph where it all went to hell until it hit 55 mph where it kind of smoothed out, (and that's a relative term). At least the vision blurring "death wobble" kind of evened out the butt clenching wandering.
Luckily when he welded on the new spring perches he left the stock ones on, so we were able to reverse the process.
Automotive companies spend millions of dollars and countless engineering hours designing safe and efficient steering systems and suspensions, so I still can't figure out why so many try to "improve" on the stock arrangement.

Well looks like my Cj search has taken yet another turn. My buddy for the last 13 years wasnt feeling so well last nite. Earlier today Vicki took him to the Vet when he threw up and was bleeding.

Turns out my pal "Simba" had a tumor in his throat that burst and was bleeding. If Vicki wasnt home the Vet said my buddy wouldve passed on within an hour. Instead hes now at home recovering. :)

Unfortunately though there was a bill that came out of the Cj money. Id still rather have my companion of the last 13 years than another Jeep so its all good. He was my buddy through a pretty tough time in my life when I was going through my divorce back then. He kept me alive. Time to return the favor. ;)

I'm sorry to hear about your best friend. I'm glad to hear you caught it in time and hope he makes a full recovery. I know mine would win out over my Jeep anytime. I wish him well.

Good to hear you giving him a 2nd chance in life.
By the way I've spent alot more than that to keep my buddy going.
I need to go to your vet.

Thanks a bunch. Vicki starts working next week. Im so glad she was here to take him. :notworthy:

Hes only 13 , hes got years left in him. :) That place is great. Its not just a Vet, it truely is a animal hospital. There are cheaper places to go a little closer but Vicki knew exactly what she was doing. I give her all the credit in the world. ;)

Ill be getting some overtime next week and rebuild a bit for the Jeep fund. That Cj has been available for a little while. It may last or I may find something better.

All I know now is I'll have my buddy available to ride shotgun in whatever Cj I buy.:D

Not that you need any validation but you made the right decision. Having just gone through a cancer scare with my Dane and a big vet bill I do understand where you are at.

They give us so much yet ask for so little.

They become one of the family and pull at your heart strings dont they? Your wording it a "scare" makes me think everything worked out?

Simba is doing well. Only thing is I cant give him any of the treats he usually gets and I know hes missing them. ;)

Any dog lovers out there wanna sell their Cj giving me a K-9 lover discount? :D
