1980 Cj5, 350 chevy (i built myself), T176, Dana 300, stock narrow trac 3.54 axles, locked in the rear, power steering, power brakes, tilt steering, Warn lockouts, 31x10.50x15 AT's, hi lift jack mounted on the front, bed lined tub, firestick cb setup, 5 in hella lights, NO RUST!!
my dad has a 79 CJ5 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l -6 and a 3 speed. we want to get away from the stock carb and get a good carb for economy. does anyone use the weber 32/36 with any luck on economy? its only getting 8mpg right now. exhaust smells rich. any other sugestions on carbs that will help him out?

i got a mc2100 carb and love it.

X3 IMO the best replacement out there.

Add me to the growing list, the MC2100 is the best thing I've ever done for mine.

thanks guys!!! thats exactly what i was looking for!!! :chug:

yeah i recently traded my old xj for a 79 CJ5 , and it runs good just kinda sputters and wants to stall when im pullin out sometimes. so me bein new to carbs like a idiot sprayed carb cleaner in without the engine running so now i've lost all sorts of power, any suggestions? i mean do i need to pull it off and clean eveything, or is the problem in the plugs now?

how much did you spray in it? if you can get it to start again it will burn it all out and be fine again. if its runs like :dung: i would say its time for a rebuild of the carb or convert it.

question...was gonna replace my carter on m y 86 CJ7 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ...what exactly do these 2100 come out of and what is needed to install....air cleaner,ect...was gonna do a weber 38 but funds are tight so if i could get my friend at the junkyard to nab me a carb.

you will need an airfilter housing and filter $30, and a carb adapter $20-30, if you get an electric choke one you will have to run a wire to it, manual you will have to run a cable. and then whatever it takes to adapt the throttle cable

well the damn nozzel got stuck when i went to spray it and it put a good bit in it, and the thing kinda spit and sputtered anyways but now its worse. i used to be able to run 65-70 mph and now im lucky to hit 50 and when i first pulled out after doin it, i could smell something new and it was wierd cause it kinda smelled like cinnamon. but it didnt put me in the christmas spirit. and i figured just running it for a while would clear it up but it hasnt yet

well i started it up today and sprayed a little more in and ever since its workin fine, but its only a single barrel so im considering the 2100 but im not sure, im just between jobs and on a tight budjet and the cj is my daily driver now so what would be your suggestions?

i would say you need to tune it up. spraying carb cleaner down the carb doesnt do much of anything. its the insides of the carb you cant get to without taking it apart that are the important spots. i would start with plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and points if it has them. then if it still runs crappy either rebuild the carb or convert to another.

well i got it runnin somewhat better but still it wants to sputter and cut out every so often but i guess ill tear it down and see what happens

does anyone have any advise on what jets to start off with in a holley 300cfm? its a straight 2 barrel just like a 350cfm but smaller and has manual choke. we are at 1500 ft above sea level.

the carb runs good now after i get it warmed up, but in the begining of the morning's or just whenever i decide to start it up it wants to die everytime i try to give it gas, i pull the choke and it works so when i leave the house and i gotta pull out from somewhere i gotta pull the choke to get it to go and then after a while it runs fine, but oh well it still has a way to go

sounds pretty normal to have to use the choke when its cold
