79 CJ5 needing new tires, need help

I'm probably going to be needing tires in the near future. I'd like some new wheels also as I'm not a fan of the ones on it currently. I have a pretty decent lift(suspension and body)

Currently running 33x12.5x15 on there now... I'd like to get some cheap American Racing black basic wheels(with the red blue lines). Mainly because they are reasonably cheap in the past for me. I think I have a little room for a bigger tire if need be.

Seems like this size tire is hard to find and when I do find it it's expensive or hard to get.

I do mainly road driving and little to no off-roading. Aggressive as I get is our indiana snow/ice storms

I'm not sure why you would be having a hard timing finding that size.
All the big names make all terrains in 33-12.5-15.

And going larger will cost more. Trust me. 33s are probably the most popular tire size around. How are you searching and where?

Mainly local places... All special order no in stock. Are there any good online sources for many BFgoodrich, Super Swamper, other decent tires?

Locally we only have Expert Tire, RabenTire(local) and DiscountTire.

I have bought a lot of tires from Discount tire ,Goodrich T/As mostly, and I have not found better price. I do not like buying tires, spending that much, sight unseen, on line. I want someone to get a hold of if I have a problem.

If you are just doing street and bad weather I would recommend the Radial T/A all terrain. and I would advise against the super swampers.

And yes, jeep tires are expensive. Nobody is going to argue that.

I like the in expensive Black Rock steel wheels and other then them rusting after a while I have had no problems.

I've got a set of Firestone Destination A/Ts on my 2002 Blazer 4x4. They've been on the vehicle since 2008, and show little wear for the 40k miles I've put on them. They are very good in snow. I'll be putting a set of them on my 76 CJ5 for 'street' tires. They come in 33x12.50-15.

I also have a '79 CJ5 . I love my Super Swampers but since you will be doing most of your driving on road I wouldn't recommend them.
BFgoodrich makes some excellent tires and the price is a bit higher too. If you don't mind paying more a BFG All Terrain would be my choice. But don't get anything more aggressive.
The Firestone Destination that HackFabrication recommended would work out good.
I like Cooper Tires. They are good tires at a good price. For my pickup I got some tires at Big O. They are Big Foot tires made by Cooper but only sold at Big O. I don't know if you have a Big O around but if you see someone selling a tire you never heard of ask who makes it. It could be that the manufacturer has a good reputation.

Hey you appear to be in the Evansville area. I'm in Washington. I have Firestone Destination ATs on my Expedition and they are awesome. Awesome.

I'm going MTs for my CJ, but for what you describe the ATs are perfect. Great in snow. Unbelievable.

Call Daviess County Tire. Easily $100 cheaper than everywhere else. PM me for number.

I highly recommend these, I run them on my wifes Cherokee and the work great all year round. And they see lite trails in the summer. I run the MT's on my CJ.
