Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out what model I have. I'm thinking a Golden Eagle , but I have some chrome accessories (from what I'm reading) means a Renegade . Don't know if the dash will tip anyone off, but I took a few pics. Also, not sure what is stock and what has been replaced.

Title says 1979 CJ7 AMC 304 , GM Turbo 400 , QT. I have chrome wheels, AC, tilt and leather steering wheel and a tow bar. Chrome grab bar is most likely not original.

This is where I'm getting confused, a sticker on the dash has the vin, tire size, etc, but says Nov. '78.

Also, I don't have a speaker, tach/ clock holes on the driver side and chrome grill.

Plus their are holes in the dash, maybe for the dash pad I guess. Any ideas would be appreciated.

does the VIN match the one on the fire wall? Look near the master cylinder.

Yes, all VINs match.
The only swaps I'm sure of are the tub and the front axle (locking hubs by PO).

First off it was common practice for Cjs to be titled on the day the were sold , not the day manufactured. Yours probably sat on the lot till early 79 and was titled as such. Your right about the holes in your dash, their for a pad. Tough to distinguish any package by the pics. The Golden Eagle has two things other than the graphics that stand out right away. The hardtop will have bronze colored windows and the wheels will be Gold. Have either of those?

"Typically" the Renegade /GE came with the optional dash clock and tach that isn't present on yours. Nothing you posted indicates to me that it's a GE. They were all appearance packages and nothing more. The 70s CJ didn't have anything in the vin that would ID a GE or Renegade . However, the Silver Anniversary had a special paint code that no other CJ had in 79 (8c).

I would do as Hedgehog says and check the firewall vin tag, make sure it matches your title as well.

I bought the hard top and my wheels are chrome, not sure about the wheels being original though.
One thing I forgot to mention, the original color was probably a weird green. I found a few spots where it wasn't painted over.

If you take a closeup of the wheels I can tell you if their original for 79.

I looked in his gallery and the pic in there looks like chrome Laredo wheels I think. They could be ordered for the Renegade model as well IIRC

Thanks guys, I guess it doesn't really matter, I was just curious.

This is the color I found.

As I know (maybe wrong) the standard wagon wheels were until 1979 in 8"
with no chrome version available. With 1980 the center caps were with the 7"
rims with changed front hubs (the pre 1979 are too large for the center caps)
available also in chrome with holes for ounting the center caps...
Maybe this is combined with the change narrow/wide axles.

Check you firewall vin code for the paint color. It will be 3/4 of the way down the actually vin number. It is a two digit code. Only green shown for 79 was "9H" Cumberland Green Metallic in the service manual. My 79 had the 7 inch chrome wheels on it with two front center caps in the back seat, because they don't fit. Meaning you can find almost anything when you didn't but it new yourself. Have fun in what ever you figure out you have. That's the most important part. Rod

PS: The sticker on the dash is called the Safety Certification Sticker. It includes the VIN, Month & Year Built, GVWR, and GAWR. This should be the same as the firewall VIN, but may not be if the dash panel was changed out. You can also check the frame above the rear passenger wheel for a VIN number.

Never had the tires off the rims for proper measurement. A different animal, but my 79 factory optional aluminum sausage slots are 7"

Sorry, my fault 8" were available in Chrome for 1979, seem to be extremely rare, never have seen some...
Additionally Aluminium wheels had 7"
But wagon wheels in 7" are definitely later...

They are rare, only made about 1000 or so sets. I have a full set of 5. I also had, but sold, a set of 5 "D" slot aluminum rims as well.

15x8 overall are pretty rare. Most are 15x7. Posi I know what you mean by the 2 different aluminum slots but we're they both Cj wheel styles from the factory?

The two dash holes above the oil and volt gauges are for the dash mounted ash try that was used when under dash AC was present.
The other 4 small holes are for the bottom dash pad screws.
The build date was in late 78. It's still a 79 model. They didn't wait till 79 to start building 79 models. Yours is an early 79.
79 wagon spoke rims would be 15x8 without center caps.
81 went to 5 bolt lock outs and used center caps on the 15x8s. 82 on went with widertrack axles and the rims went to 15x7...all with center caps from then on.
