I replaced the cable then tried to pull to heat it was OK but when I pull further to the fresh air it is VERY hard to pull further. I lubed the controls and had my wife pull the cable to the fresh air while I pushed on the cam it goes a lot better. Anyone had this problem? What were they like when new?
I am sure the cable was broken because of being hard to pull. Just got this Jeep before Christmas.

I would suggest disconnecting the cable where it goes into the vent to find out just where the snag is.

Use Graphite based liquid lock lubricant on the cable sheath.

The cables move doors inside the heater box. Look at this write up to see what they do: CJ Heater Box Restoration...pic heavy!! - JeepForum.com A rebuild of the heater box may be in order. If you disconnect the cables from the box and test them, you'll have your answer.
