Hey guys, great forum! This is the first time posting, I registered today but have watched the site for awhile. I looking for a lower thermostat housing for my 82 CJ5 GM 151 . Does anyone know where I can find this, seems to be a bit difficult to locate.

Thanks Saddle Tramp for your response. I can find the thermostat cover all day long. The lower part that holds the thermostat and bolts between the power steering and alt. on the front of the head is what I need.. Not so easy to locate. Have checked for other gm models that used the engine also without luck. May try Collins tomorrow?

Tried every salvage yard local, J&W in CA., Collins....lots of chuckles...no housing. I took it in to a friend who has a small auto repair shop, we stuck in his blast cabinet to see the extent of the damage inside...resembles an old pair of Wranglers...now in at a welding shop to see if they can do anything with it..in the meantime the search will continue.

Where are you looking?

Rockauto.com, advanceauto, and autozone all have them, ~$10.

jdarg thanks...the thermostat housing cover is fairly available, I need the lower housing that bolts to the head and has the CTO valve though.

i probably have one with all my duke parts. i can check this weekend.

Do you have a Iron Duke out of a Fiero with the weird water pump/thermostat housing, or does yours have the SBC bellhousing bolt pattern?

I wonder if the dukies in the FWD cars used something different. I think the only other RWD application was the S10. You would think an early S10 with the 2.5 would be easy to find.

I agree, need to do a little research. Definitely a hard find. I've called everywhere. What sucks is I was just doing a thermostat check/replace and now I have a indefinitely garaged jeep.

Sorry this is what was off of my '81.

Yeah. That's the "top" half and still readily available at the local auto stores. I'm still in the hunt for the "lower" half. What was just a normal thermostat check quickly turned in to a demobilization of my jeep. Ughhhh! Thanks for checking.

I went through all my Duke parts and I must have left it on when I hauled it to the scrap yard. I did find the HEI distributor that I was using on it and remembered that the Camaro used the 2.5 in RWD also. Maybe try that parts tree. In any case, I believe a engine conversion is in your future.

It was located for me by AA Auto out of Denver, CO. Great to work with unlike some others that tried to rip me off.
