83 CJ5 258, T176, D300, D30, M20.HEI, Weber carb, 4.10's FR lockers, YJ 2.5 lift springs, shackle reversal, 33'' BFG Mt's, Pro Comp 15x8 3.75 bs wheels. Cage, fenders, done by me.
Nov, 09 I was snow wheeling with and came upon an frozen solid 500' windy down hill. Of course I didn't know that it was a luge course until I crept up to take a look and my Jeep took off. I made the switch back and kept the rear behind me and was looking like I was going to survive until I hit the very last tree on the trail. Well the rest is history.

Hours before the wreck.

As with any build a solid foundation is requires. While my CJ has always been mechanically sound and well taken care of, the body was typical Jeep, rust in all the wrong places. I cut out the rockers and floors for new patch panels.

Next on the list was to strip the frame, clean, paint and add some changes.

Now the fun was starting I broke out my trusty tube bender (Pro Tools 105) and built a new cage and fenders.

Unlike the fenders you buy I grafted my inners to the new tube and plate outers.

The worst part so far has been the body work, I just don't have the patience for it. I used a colored primer that was supposed to match the final color but it came out just a bit off.

Are ya getting tired of this thread yet?

Then a bit more sanding and primer, before paint.

Then came the final color. Late model GM Hugger Orange, single stage urethane.

Well I hope this wasn't to much at once. Never seems like there is that much to it when the thread goes for two years as the work happens.
I still have more to do before its back on the trail but Its close. I am trying to decide what I want for bumpers and sliders then its just details and bolting the rest tight one last time

looks good :chug:

Well done :chug:

Well done. love the tube fenders, as clean as it comes

Well Dave, its just hasn't seemed like two years since that snowey slippery ride on that hill. I just ain't sure how I made it threw and you didn't. Maybe it was the added weight I had on my passengers side!
The Jeep is looking good. You are doing a very good job!
Get her finished so we can go back up there and recap (piss) on that tree! But lets do it in the summer, without snow, and in the day light!

Wow man, nice job!! It came out great! :chug:

Actually I believe its been 2years 16 days and 1.5 hours since that thrill ride. This summer you I and the rest of the crew will make that the maiden voyage for this version of poopie J5, I will conquer that trail.

Thank you Diddy2003 and the rest of you for the kind words.

Very nice, I don't recall ever seeing a tube fender look quite like yours after that tree :D. It may have saved you quite a bit of other work.

Nice work. Like the fenders and the cage, wish I had the skills to do that kind of work.

I Love the Fenders & the Hugger Orange!
