Build Thread 85 CJ7 resto/makeover
Things are looking good. Yep, more work always seems to happen when the wife and kids are absent.
I ordered some LED strip lights off of amazon. I got 2 different brands to see which is better. At $7 for a 4 pk I can't complain. These are the two I got, should be here tomorrow. Both are flexible and waterproof. These could even work as "rock lights" don't you think?

I think those will work great. The only difference from mine is I bought a 5 meter reel. Make sure you get the metal clean so they will stick. I used alcohol wipes to clean mine.

Exactly 2 years and 22 days after it broke. The broken bolt that started this fiasco has been replaced. No turning back now!

Front grill mounting hole drilled, I had to cut out the original hole due to rust, grill and both fenders permanently mounted.

Installed and connected a whole bunch of stuff in the engine compartment. I should be able to attempt starting her in a day or two.

And finally my windshield hinges came in. I ordered these two weeks before Christmas and they arrived on Friday.

She started!!! Then she puked a bunch of oil out of the rear of the engine . Hopefully it is just the rear main seal and I can fix it tonight. Also had a leak on the thermostat gasket. Overall I would call it a success. I was so happy to hear that engine start right up.

I got the oil leak fixed and I now I officially have a running Jeep! I put half of the rear main seal in backwards. Dumb mistake but easy to fix. I had one helluva time bleeding the brakes! Ten hours later what eventually got it was doing them in reverse order. I don't understand why, but that's what worked. Today I got the hood installed. So close to driving this thing I can't wait!

 LOOKS AWESOME!

I can't wait to get to this point on my rebuild. Good looking Jeep. Get ready for some fun!

^^ ditto that. I'm just starting to get painted body parts back. I'll take him the tub this weekend.
You said you were doing the bleeding process backwards, can you explain the process that finally got them working and bled? I will have a dry system to install soon so I'd like to hear your story.

I did them in reverse order. Typically you would start at the rear passenger wheel and work your way closer to the master cylinder. That didn't work for me. What I did was start at the drivers side front wheel and work away from the master cylinder. I thought the proportioning valve was bad and did a Google search for one and came across a story of a guy bleeding his brakes backwards and it working. So I gave it a try and it worked.

YOU did real good!:notworthy:
Would love to have the 'garage' room you have. :chug:
LG

That's good to know, I currently have my back brakes torn apart to repair a leaking drivers side brake cylinder :chug:

She's not 100% done, but she is drivable. I still have to build door panels, build a center console, install a stereo, and build bumpers. You guys know the drill. A Jeep, especially a CJ, is never completely finished. Anyway, catch you guys later, I'm off for a drive.
