86 CJ7 Laredo Black
The Jeep was totally gone thru, 124k original miles on body,
New Crate engine and Trans, Weber Carb, Interior replaced back to stock, Dana 44 Rear, Dana 35 Front, 2.5 " Suspension Lift 1" body 33-12.50 Tires on Mickey Thompson Wheels, New Dupont Paint
The CJ was in a wreck and I think it hurt me more than it damaged the Jeep,
it wasnt a frame off restore but it was in amazing shape,
ill post some before and now pics tomorrow.
Anyways the cowl plate ( the piece between the hood and windshield frame) is bent right where the passenger side hood latch attaches,
I didnt know it was bent till yesterday, and I was just going to put the fender and hood back on with just primer for now b/c Im a bit low on cash right now,
but this cowl plate is beyond my skills to put on, I havent looked enough yet to be for sure but i thought it should be painted before installed.
I know the fender and hood should also, but i need to get it back roadworthy.
So am I correct I should paint the cowl panel before install, I have decided if Im paying someone to install/ paint the cowl I mine as well have them paint the hood and passenger front fender as well.

Its got an amazing paint job with dupont paint, its got only like 3000 miles since it was repainted Black.

I just want some opinions and
I found by mistake the other night a place online selling the side cowl plate with the jeep logo stamped on it, I may need this as well can anyone point me in the right direction to find this place,
they were under a google search like classic or vintage jeeps, and I cant seem to find it now.

1 more thing
what would be a fair price to pay someone to install the cowl panel, im not talking about painted just done right.
I got a friend who has a guy who paints his classic camaros chevelle s etc, Im going to get him to do it. He just has a shop at his house now semi retired,
but he is like a friend of the family and does amazing work , so i was just curious what a fair price would be for that

Cut out section , replace panel section , weld , body work
5.5 hrs $475. if you supply panel section/materials
$550. if he does

as for paint

prep/sand/mask up
prime/seal
paint

3.0 hrs $260. if you supply paint/materials
$400. if he does

since I don't know his hourly rate I used mine
which is $85. hr

hope this helps give you a idea :chug:

one more thing i need a fender and a hood painted also,
I was going to supply all parts paint etc, since he wont be out any money he said he would do it for less ,

I assume id be better off to get it all done at once,

Its hard to tell be the cowl side plate with the jeep logo might need to be replaced also
i found just that pice for 55, with the jeep logo stamped in at
Classic Enterprises - Restoration, Reproduction Parts for Studebaker, Jeep & Ford

What do you think it would cost to paint the cowl, hood, passenger fender, and possibly that one small side cowl plate piece,,

your info you supplied has been greatly appreciated,
When the jeep was painted, it was done with dupont paint,
I have been told as long as its quality paint and its color matched it would be fine but, I got over 20k in receipts on this jeep build - i didnt build it all so i want it dont right, so I thought I should spend the extra on the dupont paint so its the same as the rest of my jeep,
whats your opinion on the paint,
thx
again
